Exploring the Heart Chakra: The Gatekeeper of Energy Flow
In many texts, I have read about the importance of working through the chakras beginning at the root, Muladhara. This approach is widely recommended, emphasizing the need to build a strong foundation before moving upwards. However, my personal findings have been somewhat contradictory to that traditional approach.
My routine with the seven major chakras is typically done on a seven-day basis. I start with the root chakra on day one, the sacral chakra on day two, and continue sequentially through the week. Despite my efforts, I often find myself stuck by the middle of the week, never managing to complete my routine all the way through. More specifically, I find myself repeatedly getting stuck at the heart chakra.
This evening, while reading "Wheels of Life" by Anodea Judith (one of my favorite books and educators), I came across a passage that resonated deeply with me. Judith describes the heart chakra as the gatekeeper between the upper and lower chakras. The part of the text that caught my attention was:“…fear is integral to the understanding of the heart chakra. It works as a protective device, helping to balance the flow of input and output. It is the gatekeeper of the delicate heart chakra energy. Maintaining this gate is a two-edged sword. The input and output of energy in a chakra increase together. The more tightly our gate closes, the more we restrict the passage of energy through all the chakras. This restriction not only inhibits energy passage to and from the outside world but simultaneously restricts the flow between our upper
and lower chakras. Causing alienation between our minds and bodies. Eventually, the heart chakra becomes depleted, and we have walled ourselves into a world alone.”
This passage hit home for me, as I am someone who sometimes deals with intense anxiety. The heart chakra has been my focus as a means to help me heal this. I now realize how important it is to balance out this chakra first. This realization is only my opinion, but it has been a significant turning point for me.
If the heart chakra is the gatekeeper to our upper and lower chakras, then why not focus our attention here first when working with our chakras? The heart chakra, being in the center, serves as a bridge that integrates the physical and spiritual aspects of our being. When this chakra is blocked or imbalanced, it can create a sense of disconnection and isolation, both within ourselves and in our relationships with others.
For those who, like me, struggle with anxiety or emotional turmoil, focusing on the heart chakra might offer a more effective starting point. By nurturing and opening the heart chakra, we can create a more harmonious flow of energy throughout our entire chakra system. This can lead to a more balanced and integrated state of being, fostering a deeper connection between our mind, body, and spirit.
I invite you to share your thoughts and experiences with working through the chakras. Have you found certain chakras more challenging than others? How do you approach balancing your energy centers? Let's explore this journey together and learn from each other.
